Leather Care

A little care goes a long way and will ensure your Daines & Hathaway leathers will wear beautifully and last a long time.

Bridle Leather

Bridle leather is a traditional English leather, relatively stiff when new it develops individual wear characteristics, (much like your favourite jeans) and softens with use. This is due to the oils with the leather that warm and help burnish the leather when handled. If not used for a while you might see the oils on the surface in a white ‘bloom’, simply polishing with a cloth will feed the oil back into the leather and return it to a shine.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn leather is what is known as a classic ‘pull up’ leather, which has an oiled finish that darkens the top. If you gently run your fingers underneath the leather you will see it lighten as the oil move away from the ‘pulled’ part. It makes for a leather than has a lovely pre-worn handle and it is soft from first use.

Brooklyn has Pittards WR100 water resistant technology tanned into it, which makes it easy to care for - simply wipe with a damp cloth. The water resistant treatment not only protects from water but it helps the leather stay soft too.

The leather man’s trick with a pull up leather that has a surface scratch is to work over the mark with your thumbs. The warmth from your hands encourages the oil to move over the scratch and so fill it in.

Finsbury

Finsbury is a leather developed by Pittards especially for use in bags, it has a soft handle and subtle but distinctive grain. Such is the quality, in order to clean it, this leather simply needs to be wiped with a damp cloth.

Attacama

Attacama is a rugged leather that has Pittards WR100 water resistant technology tanned into it, which makes it easy to care for - simply wipe with a damp cloth. The water resistant treatment not only protects from water but it helps the leather stay soft too.

Camo Leather

Our Camo leathers are glove quality sheepskin that has Pittards WR100 water resistant technology tanned in, making them easy to care for - simply wipe with a damp cloth. The water resistant treatment not only protects from moisture but it helps the leather stay soft too.
